4S. I like the name, and it makes sense to keep continuity with the previous naming scheme (3GS). I guess we'll see a true iPhone 5 next summer.

I'm going to agree with you on this.

    3G --> 3Gs --> 4

    4--> 4s --> 5

Same update path, but the timing altered by the CDMA production.

4s in Sept iPhone 5 in June 2012 with LTE. :apple:

Just having beat Portal 2 on my 11" MBA with a 1.6ghz core 2 duo and the 320m, playing it on max settings, native resolution at ~40fps was GREAT.

This isn't possible on the Intel graphics, it'd tip just below smoothly playable at these settings. The CPU is barely a bottleneck, seriously. What other 11" device can run a modern game maxed out?! Thank god for the Source engine, and for Apple's 320M+C2D choice.

Too bad I can't find a store that has an iPad 2, due to all of the Asians buying them up every morning and exporting them (do they have an export license? I think not). I've been told the local foreign college students can send them back to their parents in China or Vietnam who then sell them for a $1000 profit.

To squash some WinTel people in this forum/post trying to say Windows scales better than UNIX.

Spec of a Sun machine running UNIX.

    Key Specifications:

Up to 106 UltraSPARC III Cu 900-MHz processors.
Big memory - more than 1/2 TB.
Up to 18 fifth-generation Dynamic System Domains, which are fully configurable while applications are running.
Hot-swappable Uniboard design CPU/memory boards that are common across Sun Fire server family.
Redundant, high-performance Sun[tm] Fireplane Interconnect with up to 172.8 GBps peak bandwidth.
Full redundancy of power and cooling systems.

Oh yeah! OS X is UNIX also. Hmmm.

Single CPU vs. Multi CPU. Who cares?

    Macs are the whole package.

    Nuff said!

As for Trump, I have to agree with mrkramer that he's the male version of Palin.

And, uh...you know he's got a penchant for naming everything after himself, right? How does The United States of Trump grab you?

Update away. Those of you running illegal copies of the WWDC (torrent) will be happy to know that your IP and other system/contact info is automatically logged and forwarded to Apple Legal by the Leopard Software Update.

"Enjoyed the preview? Good. We'll be contacting you soon..."

yeah, it would only cost them $1000+ to have someone come round to my house and do something about it, well worth the 59 they would sell the end product for

do they check everybodys IP, how do they know i wasn't at wwdc.

Wow... short sighted on the networks part. I'm surprised.... no difference than just having another TV in your house, just on your Tablet. It would be interesting to know more about their motivation behind this... maybe they want to go direct? In other words, maybe Discovery and the other channels want to sell direct subscriptions and not go through channel partners like Time Warner?

If that is the case... I smell disaster for the networks. Who wants to buy individual channels for their computers, iPads or other devices? Not me? It would have to be dirt cheap.

Hummm.... thinking about it... maybe it's not so dumb? If each channel was $.99 and I could pick Ala-carte who I wanted, I know my Cable bill would go from $40 per-month to less than $10. Maybe they are onto something thinking about it?

This is probably why they WON'T do this. I am with you. I wish I could scrap 90% of the channels I get and just get that I watch. Lower my bill by a few bucks, I would be a happy camper. But I don't see that happening anytime soon thou. Who knows though. Maybe this is the beginning!!

how many of us actually care much about aperture...?

Personally I much prefer Lightroom. There's way too much wrong with RAW workflow in Aperture.

Yup. Leaking Aluminium Electrolytic Capacitors (http://www.repeater-builder.com/motorola/spectra/spectra-caps/c635+c636.jpg) on the motherboard (sample picture only).

Replace them with Tantalum Electrolytics or disconnect the speaker. If you don't replace the capacitors, eventually they will corrode tracks on the motherboard (if they haven't started already).

A slight warning about the caps replacement - Id recommend doing it carefully, you really dont want to ruin the board if you slip. Also check PDS slots still work post-op if/when you replace them :)

is streaming copyrighted files felony worthy?
    Nein.

It's bad enough that some of these civil suits claim ridiculous damages where one instance of copyright violation is supposedly thousands of dollars.

Which cameras in particular. It already supports all the serious Pro cameras if you ignore the very recently announced Canon and Nikon amature DSLRs.

My brother is a photographer, and has a medium format mumiya camera with digital back

It supports his SLRS, but not his mumiya

So, he can't really use aperture.

I've been working in my spare time on creating a distrubted computer system based on Xgrid to render Blender 3D projects. It works well on my local LAN, but in the last week I've started to expand it to allow others to connect. So far the Grid has 10.6 Ghz registered to it via internet users.

Blender 3D is Opensource and supported on many platforms including Solaris, FreeBSD, Linux, OSX, and Windows. The major draw back is thus far only macintosh users have been able to connect and process jobs.

I've tried using windows boxes connecting through an opensource JAVA client and then do connect to the grid and accept tasks, but output an error stating "Blender could not be found at current location" or something to that effect. Basically I figure that blender has to be in the same place on all the machines.

I haven't gotten any Linux/BSD users to try the system yet, but there were some sucesses on local grids with Linux machines connenting and rendering works.

Help and advice are sorely welcome. You can check out www.blenderxgrid.com for more information.

So far, I've gotten users to connect to the grid, but the controller is not distrubting out tasks to those agents. They are just shown as "unavailable". And am advancing beyond my technical expertise here, so help and ideas will be welcome.

    Bleh.

229 is a fair chunk of change for a start, and certainly a long way off the current pricing of the DSi. I for one would certainly wait for some deep price cuts, but knowing Nintendo that's unlikely to happen any time this year. I can't see parents being willing to drop that much coin as well - I reckon DSi sales will continue to be strong.

Second, it looks old. The design hasn't changed since the DS, bar a few tweaks, yet other hardware looks sleek and slim in comparison - even the PSPgo! Nintendo have to realise they're competing with Apple as well, and Apple know how to make things small and look good too. It looks fat, pocket-unfriendly and not modern.

Personally, 3D is rubbish - but that's due to my own eyesight. Hearing multiple reports that it only works from one very narrow angle? Not so good - but I'll reserve judgement until the public gets hands on them.

Finally, the battery life. Oh my days. Are we regressing here? 3.5 - 5 hours? Is that it? My iPad far outdoes that...

    Things I'd make better:
    1) Modern casing, not a boring box
    2) Battery life
    3) Cost
    4) Region lock
    5) Capacitive touch and ditch the stylus

I agree with others. This is page 1 content for sure.

This supports my theory that all this Google - Apple hate is manufactured to throw off the authorities who were starting to investigate their close ties last year. They both need each other.

Neither of them really need each other too much... Google could do perfectly fine without Apple.

Frankly Apple should just commit to Thunderbolt and put those ports right on there. There is really no need for any other port.

Except they want to sell iPhones and iPads to PC owners who will probably have USB3, not Thunderbolt.
